Archaeological Museum of Thassos

The museum is housed in a building dating back to 1934, which was recently expanded. In 2004 the museum reopened its doors to the public after many years of inactivity. The first room is dedicated to Marina Sgouros. Through a photos presentation in this room you will see  the excavation work in Thassos from 1911 to 1981, when French archaeologists discovered the ancient city and the excavations were conducted by the French Archaeological School.

Theologos Folklore Museum

Theologos is the old capital of the island, located 55 km. from the port. The museum is housed in Chatzigiorgi mansion. The spaces are designed to represent a typical Mediterranean house of Thassos so there is a fireplace, the chamber of the couple with the bed, the chest and the woven bedding. There is also another room dedicated to handicraft and weaving, with a loom, and other household tools.

In the open air space and on the ground floor there is an exhibition of tools used by the various traditional occupations of the island (farmer, fisherman, carpenter, blacksmith, etc.)

Panagia

Panagia is a picturesque mountain village at an altitude of 300 meters. It is located in the northeastern part of the island, 8 km from the port. After the revolution of 1821 it became the capital of the island and took its name from the name of the church. It was reorganized in the last 300 years when the inhabitants of the port were forced to leave the coast and hide in the mountains due to the attacks of the pirates. 900 residents live there today. In the past it even had its own currency, the Bakir, which you can see in the village church.

Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach is one of the most popular beaches of Thassos. The name comes from the exotic beauty and the forest that surrounds it. It is located in the eastern part of Thassos, 22 km from the port. The nearest village to the beach is Kinira, just 2 km away.

Saliara

Saliara is a little exotic beach in northern Thassos. It is located 5 km from the port. The beach is stunning with white pebbles and crystal clear blue wates. To reach Saliara (which has become quite popular in the last years) you simply need to follow the road to Makryammos. Before the hotel entrance, you turn right into a dirt road. There is a parking area near the beach.

Chrysi Ammoudia

Chrysi Ammoudia (=Golden Sand) is the largest beach of the island. It is 12 km from the port, 4 km from Panagia and it is located on the east side of the island.
It is a popular destination, with shallow and clear water, organized with sunbeds and umbrellas and rewarded with a blue flag. It takes its name from the color of the sand under the summer sun. It is also known as Aylakia or Skala Panagia.
