Arkasa Acropolis

The archaeological site of Arkasa, one of the four municipalities of classic and subsequent years, consists of the Acropolis of Palaiokastro with visible remains of towers and buildings of the classical and Hellenistic periods and archaic fortifications.

Eparheio

At Pigadia location you will find the three buildings of Eparheio. They are typical structures of the Italian occupation era and were built during the period  of1926-1936. They were the Italian headquarters and it seems that similar buildings were built on every island of the Dodecanese. Nowadays they belong to the Greek State.

Monument of the woman of Olympos

This is the sculpture of a woman dressed in traditional clothes, looking towards the sea waiting for the return of those who emigrated. This statue is a reminder of the emigrants. All expatriates sent money to the island and thus contributed in its development. However, knowing their loved ones live in another country was something that saddened the locals. These feelings are represented by the statue of the woman waiting patiently for the emigrants to return.

Kyra Panagia

The church of Kyra Panagia dates back to the 6th century and is built on a rock by the sea, southwest of Pigadia village. Here you will see the painting of Virgin Mary which is worshiped by everyone on the island.

Vroukounta

Northeast of Olympos, on the edge of Vroukounta cape, you will find a large natural cave which has been inhabited since the Minoan- Mycenaean era. You can see the ruins and the carved tombstones of the ancient city if you enter the bay by boat. At the tip of the peninsula there is a cave in the memory of St. John Vroukounta. The largest and most important festival of Karpathos takes place here on August 28-29.

Olympos

This is the most popular traditional village of Karpathos, built in an amphitheatric style at the foot of Prophet Elias Mountain at an altitude of 250 meters. It is isolated from the rest of the villages, but offers an amazing view to the sea. Olympos keeps the local tradition alive till nowadays. The inhabitants speak a local vernacular language, wear traditional costumes and cook in wood ovens.

Aperi

Aperi is located 8 km. northwest of the main city and it used to be the capital of the island till 1892. It is hidden behind the high mountains of Karpathos so that pirates would not notice it. It is a traditional village with few shops, cafes and taverns. The lush vegetation and the stream that divides the village in two make it one of the most beautiful villages of Karpathos. Even though the old mansions are trying to maintain their former glory, most of them are uninhabited or used as holiday homes. On the top of the mountain you can also see the ancient citadel of Karpathos.

Amoopi

One of the most popular beaches on the island, Ammopi is a tourist resort located 6 km. from the main city. It is divided into smaller beaches that are all protected from the etesian winds of summer.

Afoti

This is a beautiful sandy beach which attracts many bathers. It is organized, while in the area there are several restaurants and bars.
