Archaeological Museum of Syros

The Archaeological Museum is housed in the Town Hall, with its own entrance from the west side. The museum started with only one collection: the inscriptions collected by John Kokkonis in 1834. This first museum was housed in the High School of the town, then (1888) in the municipal building of the island and from 1899 to 1901 in the Town Hall. The decision to move the findings in the Town Hall is connected with the important discoveries of Chr. Tsountas in Chalandriani and the desire of the residents of Syros to keep them on the island.
