Museum of National Resistance Koryschades

The history of this place is connected with the years of Occupation and Resistance and this museum commemorates these difficult years. The museum is housed in the old elementary school of Koryschades. This is the same building where in May 1944 the National Council of free Greece had their first meeting after the nationwide secret elections. The meeting was attended by 176 Counselors from all over Greece and they all agreed that "Power derives from the people and is exercised by the people”.

Megalo Chorio Folklore Museum

This is the biggest folkloric museum of Evrytania and it houses collections depicting the daily lives of people: Traditional costumes, textiles, appliances, tools of professions that do not exist anymore, agricultural tools and many folk art objects. All items in the exhibition are donations of local residents.

Viniani Museum

In the historic village of Viniani the "Government of the Mountain," the first government of Greece, was established on March 10, 1944. Aris Velouchiotis and Napoleon Zervas met here on November 22, 1942 and talked about their plan to blow up Gorgopotamos Bridge. Today the locals are trying to transfer the museum in the old school building in order to preserve the memory of the events that shaped modern history. The museum houses photographs and documents from that period and is located in Old Viniani which was abandoned on February 6, 1966 after a devastating earthquake.

Holy Trinity Church, Karpenissi

In the center of Karpenissi, just a few meters far from the central square of the city, you will find the Holy Trinity Church, which is listed as a historic monument built in the 17th century. Eugene Giannoulis the Aitolos (1597-1682) helped a lot in building the church in 1654. He also founded the first school in Evrytania for higher education. His bust can be seen in the courtyard of the church.

Viniani Bridge

Viniani Bridge is made of local stone called “Vinianitiko” and connects the banks of Megdovas River. Along with Manolis Bridge and Tatarna Bridge, they were the only safe passage of the rivers back in the days. Legend has it that there is a haunted beehive on the bridge which does not allow travelers to pass from one side of the river to the other.

Koryschades

This traditional settlement with its beautiful houses and cobbled streets is one of the most beautiful villages of Evrytania. The name of the village comes from the ancient word 'Korys' (meaning helmet) and they say that in ancient times they made weapons in “Kaminia” location.

Mikro Chorio

At the foot of Helidonas Mountain you will find Palio and Neo Chorio. Neo Chorio almost ceased to exist in 1963 when a landslide caused by heavy rains forced the residents to abandon their village and find a safer refuge. This is how the New Mikro Chorio was created. It is less 'traditional' and more touristic, but equally beautiful. The village attracts many visitors due to the good dining options and elegant accommodation in luxury lodges. A few meters before arriving at the first houses of the Old Mikro Chorio, you will see a dirt road that will take you to the lake (200m distance).

Kremasta Lake

This is the largest and probably the most beautiful artificial lake in Greece. It was created in the 60s along with the hydroelectric dam. The dam is constantly full of water by the rivers Acheloos, Agrafiotis, Tavropos and Trikeriotis. It is situated between the prefectures of Aitoloakarnania and Evrytania which are connected with the bridge of Episkopi. The bridge is about 60 km from Agrinio and 55 km from Karpenisi.

Mavri Spilia Gorge

The Gorge of Mavri Spilia (meaning “Black Cave”) is about 2 km from the village of Prousos. This is one of the most beautiful and impressive gorges of Evrytania. It takes its name from the famous Black Cave which was a refuge for local residents during the Ottoman period and during the German occupation. What makes the Gorge of Black Cave special is the unique via ferrata route, the start of which is marked by the Black Cave.
