Cave of the Nymphs

The Cave of the Nymphs is located southeast of Kamares village, in Korakies location. It is approximately 10 meters deep and there is a natural small basin, which was probably used to gather water. This water resulted in a little torrent which flowed to Livadas. On the left of the entrance there is an inscription on the rock: Sanctum of the Nymphs. The inscription is written in the Ionic dialect which proves that the cave was a worship place in the late 6th or early 5th century B.C.

Ancient Acropolis at the Castle

The ancient Acropolis at the Castle is surrounded by a wall, parts of which are still visible nowadays. The wall is long and reaches the traditional village of the Castle which is inhabited until today. Recent excavations revealed parts that are over 4 m. high, and this gave some light concerning the period when the monument was constructed. Also, based on the excavations of the English School inside the Acropolis it seems that the beginning of its construction dates back to the late 6th century B.C.
