Church of St. George

The cathedral of St. George is located in the center of the town and is widely known because of the frescoes painted by Kostis Parthenis. The oldest written reference to the temple belongs to a population census and dates back to 1828 when the Governor was John Kapodistrias. The parish included 97 parishioners with their families, a total of 358 people. However, the church is probably older than this.

It dates back to the 18th century and it is built on a hill.  It takes its name from the only source of the island which, according to tradition, is known for its healing properties. The wooden temple of the monastery was painted in Cappadocia (Asia Minor) in the 17th century.
